Darren was 10 years old. He was a boy who loved cars. Especially holden. But unfortunately, he had a brain tumour which the doctors told his parents meant he wasn't expected to live past sixteen.
Darren regularly went down to the childrens hospital at Westmead for treatment, and also regularly visited the starlight room where he would watch the starlight channel live, do some craft, play video games or play with Captain Starlight himself!
One day, Darren's mother Wendy pulled Captain Starlight aside, asking him if he thought they could grant Darren's wish of meeting Mark Schafee and riding with him in his race car. Captain Starlght agreed.
So a few months later, Darren's wish came true. He and his mother were flown down to Melbourne where at a race track, they met Mark Schafee and Darren was taken for a ride with him in his race car.
It was, and still is the best day of Darren's life. A moment never to be forgotten.
