New Years Traditions

Jade sat, looking at the fireworks exploding to bring in the New Year, but though she was seeing them, she wasn't paying that much attention. Her thoughts lie elsewhere. On New Years Eve, people made New Years resolutions of goals they wanted to achieve in the new year. The Chinese gave the year an animal. That coming year was supposed to be the year of the horse. Yes, there were plenty of traditions out there, but Jade wanted her own. And so, she was lost in her mind as she stared up at the light show in the sky.

The Chinese new year tradition sounded good, she thought. The year of the... But if she was going to adopt it, she'd make it her own. But year of the what? She'd have to make it count. She wanted it to be something meaningful. resembling what she'd like to accomplish in the year.

When Jade lost herself on that train of thoughts, after finding herself again, she realized the answer was fairly obvious, and simple. That year, she'd finished her final year at school, so now it seemed, she was closing one chapter in the book of her life and opening another. She was leaving one world behind to enter another. She was going to try new things, push her boundaries, do things she hadn't before. She was going to spread her wings. She was going to fly. Just like a butterfly. Yes, that was it, the year of the butterfly.
